Construction
The House was designed by Evelyn Zayachek, and built in 1969-70 on a site sheltered by a tall forested hill on the north and bordered by the Indian River on the east and south sides. It faces the inside curve of New York State Route 22 on the west; headlights do not illuminate the house. The house was erected atop a concrete foundation that extends to bedrock. The pictures show the topsoil laid atop the fill. A private well supplies water to the site and there is a private septic tank.
The house was placed for maximal north shelter. It has excellent views of the Mettawee Valley to the west and south. The Indian River runs to the east and south sides of the house separated by grassy swale; it is seeded yearly with game fish. The site has no immediate neighboring houses or structures.
